Finchstar yawned and glanced over at Wolfstep "we'll see kiddo" He mewed quaintly and stretched. "I'll see myself back to camp now, no need to escort me, I can see it from here, its not like I'm going to catch on fire or have a heart attack in the ten steps it takes to get there." He rubbed against Sparrowflight and then deliberately pushed her closer to wolfstep. "you two play nicely now." And with that he lumbered back towards camp.

Too embarrassed now about being so close to Wolfstep, she didn't argue against her father leaving. She looked at the him but did not back away. "hi.." She mumbled, her nose almost touching his. 'STUPID!' she scolded herself. 'H! how stupid can you be?!? Really, you've been talking with him this whole time and then say hello like a retard' She thought to herself.

Wolfstep dipped his head as the former leader departed. He looked over at Sparrowflight and bumped his nose against hers "Hey" he meowed softly although immediately after he flattened his ears and backed up. He twitched his whiskers and stared at his paws, he looked up and thought of an idea. "Wait here!" he said as he nudged her to sit down before jumping off into the dry brush. Why hadn't he thought of it sooner!

As he bounced off his wide blue eyes were in search, looking for something he had seen earlier, when he had first explored the desert landscape. He purred with delight as he found it, a lush beautiful patch of vibrant purple flowers. He circled it, trying to pick out the best one, just for her. When he found it he picked it gently with his jaws and carried it back like a fragile kit.

When he had arrived where he had left her he approached from behind slowly, he backed up for a second... perhaps this was wrong, maybe she wouldn't feel the same way. His heart shattered at the thought. He closed his eyes, one step closer...

"Sparrowflight?"

Sparrowflight stared dumbly after him. Were was her going? Was it something she said... no. He seemed to be coming back, he had said to wait here. Maybe he had a surprise. Her whole body prickled, what could he possibly be getting? She waited impatiently and then saw him head back tenthly, his demeanor changed greatly. He was holding something delicately in his mouth. "wolf step?" She heard her name. She walked up to him. "Yes?"

Wolfstep gathered as much courage as he could and placed the delicate flower at her paws before dropping his ears flat on his skull. "For you...." he murmured. He shuffled his paws and took another shakey breath "i-I have loved you for what seems like a thousand seasons. Since I was a tiny kit, and you were there when no one else was. And when the earthquake happened, all I thought of was how if you died, how I would die too, so I could be in starclan with you." He did not dare to make eye contact, instead he kept his eyes trained on the flower. His pelt pricked with anticipation at her reply. He smacked himself mentally and cursed his cowardice.

Sparrowflight drew back slightly, not because of fear or anger, but because of shock. The moment had completely taken her back. His sudden proclamation of love was not what she was expecting at all. "I-I... uh" She stared dumbly down at the flower and nodded like a lifeless shell. Then it seemed the moment had fully absorbed and registered, color flushed her face, but her mind and heart were far gone from her body. Soaring. Her head buzzed and her paws itched. "wolf.....w- woldstep" She brushed her nose agaisnt his cheek. Did she love him back? That was a question she couldnt come to grips with. What was love? Was it real or an illusion. She did know that she was happy to hear the words from him, and didnt have the time to analyze her feelings, so she ran with the feeling. "All I could think of was you, after what happened with Jaggedstone, I worried I'd lose you, that you wouldn't be the same."

Wolfstep flattened his ears and watched her reaction, and although it wasn't what he wanted, it was what he expected. For so long he had not been able to tell her how he felt, he had distanced himself, watched from afar. But now that he told er, all he could do was hope she would feel the same way. " Im sorry, i shouldn't have told you..." he mumbled as she brushed his cheek, "You are the reason i never changed. I would have ended up like my father if it hadn't been for you. I would never leave you...." he whispered.

Sparrowflight didn't know what to say. Should she go out and tell him everything that she felt? No she couldn't all this time winding it deep inside like a tree slowly rooting itself. She had finally blocked away her emotions, pain, love, and hate. All of it seemed so tight inside her that now she had a hard time showing how she felt. She hardly knew herself and what she thought. But the nagging feeling inside kept nagging at her head. It was a warm and happy feeling. One that twisted her stomach and made her heart feel tight. She wanted to linger in it forever. The feeling had a life of its own, It was Wolfstep. The feeling was him. She felt it every time she saw him, meet his gaze, heard his voice. She could see the pain on his face. Or was it pain? Maybe it was just embarrassment. 'way to go!' She scolded herself, you hesitated and now you made him upset. He will never share things like this with you again, don't let this go, make a move! Her body shivered and she could feel her fur prickle. "n-no!Its ok! i'm glad you did! Please, don't be upset, I-I was just taken aback. I didn't think anyone really liked me like that." Then her mind drifted to Shadowfire. Her stomach twisted. Hadn't he acted the same way towards her. Maybe Shadow loved her as well. Did she feel that way towards him? She dug her paws in as the realization sunk in. No.....
